Night pages: 98 - 103

In pages 98 through 103 in the novel Night, the prisoners are told to throw out the bodies of the dead men. "Throw out all the dead! Outside, all the corpses!" Eliezer soon wakes his father up because it seems as if he is a dead man. For many days the Jews survive off of snow becasue of the lack of food provided to them. Some throw bread out for the experience of seeing them fight over food.

Later, Eliezer witnesses a man beaten for bread by his son. The son is then beaten to death also by another person. When the train arrives at Buchenwald, there are only 12 alive.

Night Pages: 85-97

Many Jews are are running away from gunfire but many cannot survive. Zalman is a boy running next to Eliezer who cannot survive because he decides he can run no rurther and is literally killed by being ran over by everyone else running for there own lives. This is another sight that is unimaginable for us today.

After running, they find themselves in an empty village/town.

Rabbi Eliahou is a kind man who is searching for his son and Eliezer lies to the Rabbi that he has not seen his son. But, in fact, he saw his son abandon his father and Eliezer only wishes to not do what Eliahou's son did.
This book presents many interesting short-stories contained inside that show how the Jews were treated. It's shocking and ridicoulous that humans would treat others in this way.

Night pages: 66 - 84

In section 5 of Night (pages 66-84), Elie seems betrayed by God and cannot give thanks to God because of the suffering he has gone through so far. On Yom Kippur, many Jews fast and even though Eliezer is Jewish, he decides he cannot fast and decides to eat. As Eliezer is separted from his father, he becomes worried for his father's conditon and safety. Eliezer is later sent away and cannot see his father.

However, after a selection, his father has survived somehow. Eventually, Eliezer tells a rabbi about his lack of faith in God.

As Eliezer is in the hospital because of the severe cold weather, news that the Russian army is coming provides hope. The Germans decide to leave because of the news and Eliezer and his father decide to evacuate as well. Later, they realize they made a terrible decision because if they had stayed, they would have beens saved by the Russians. Little mistakes in these situations can be the difference between death and freedom.

Night Pags: 29-46

In section three of Night, Eliezer remains with his father. They later meet a prisoner who encourages them to lie about their age, while another prisoner tells them that they were only brought here to be burned. Many jews are horrified at seeing a site where babies are being burned. Many become paranoid and others begin to pray. Eliezer's father is badly beaten when he asks if he could go to the bathroom.

Many begin to pray as a way to express how they feel since they are not aloud to have freedom. They only have to chooses which are to die or do manual labor. This seems inhuman and is very shocking to some.

Night pages: 23-28

In chapter two (secton two) of Night, the Jews are being treated inhuman by being put into a closed and small place for them to be transported by train. These conditions are horrible until they arrive at the Czechoslovakian border, where it is almost impossible to escape.

Madame Schächter begins to scream and others believe she has become crazy. So others tie her up and stuff her mouth so that she is unable to scream. When she decides to scream again she is beaten and the process continues. When they find out they are at Auschwitz station, they are told they will be treated with care. As night time arrives, Madame Schächter begins to yell again and then she is beaten in order for her to be quiet.

The Jews later find out they are at Birkenaut, a place where newcomers arrives. They also begin to notice a horrible odor which they cannot put they finger on. The odor is the terrible smell of burning human flesh. The kind of hatred that is portrayed in this novel is inhuman and disgusting.

Night pages: 3-22

A young boy, the narrator, named Eliezer lives in a Transylvanian town of Sighet during 1941. Eliezer has three sisters named Hilda, Bea, and Tzipora. The narrator studies the Talmud and the Cabbala. In 1944, the Hungarians govern the Fascits and the German armies are located in Hungary and march into Sighet. From this, many Jews' confidence lowers as they have to wear yellow stars. They are later pushed into a small space with German soldiers keeping the Jews in order. I am starting to notice the cruelty that was involved during this time period between the German Soldiers against the Jewish communtiy. In the next pages, I will learn more about the harsh conditions for the Jews.
